Carol Romero is a self employed Waste Management Consultant. Carol has a first class BScHons degree in Environmental Science and is a member of the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management. After graduating from Newcastle Polytechnic (now Northumbria University) she worked in Cumbria County Council's waste regulation team, initially helping to produce the County's Waste Arisings Survey, and then as a Waste Regulation Inspector. When the Environment Agency was formed Carol took on the role of a Waste Licensing Officer, enjoyed two spells as an Environmental Management Team Leader and then, until May 2011 was a Senior Environment Officer.

Carol holds a Vocationally Related Qualification (VRQ) "Certificate in Wastes and Resource Management" issued by the Waste Industry Training & Advisory Board (WAMITAB) and is an associate member of the Furness Waste Consortium.

In 2014 Carol obtained a WAMITAB Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment. This enables her to mentor and assess candidates undertaking their WAMITAB Technical Competence Operator Competence Certificates.
